Oh noes! I'll write seven things about you meme!

Comment and:

1. I’ll respond with something random about you
2. I’ll challenge you to try something
3. I’ll pick a color that I associate with you
4. I’ll tell you something I like about you
5. I’ll tell you my first/clearest memory of you
6. I’ll tell you what animal you remind me of
7. I’ll ask you something I’ve always wanted to ask you
8. If I do this for you, you must post this on yours!

Because fannishnej did it for me. I warn you that I reserve the right to make it all up on the fly, without actually knowing anything about you.

First line challenge

First proper line of the novel I just started reading, The family trade by Charles Stross:

The sky was the color of a dead laptop display, silver-gray and full of rain.

Which is called wearing your influences on your sleeve, and also clues the reader in that you're going to operate in a meta-ironic mode. Or something like that. Which made me think...

The opening line of a Giles story:

The skylight above the library was the color of a palimpsest, scoured to dead illegibility.

Write this story. You may feel free to improve the cadence of this sentence, but please retain its core reference.
