House
Hmm, I don't think there's any way to fully express my happiness with the last two House episodes without spoilage, so behind the cut it goes... )

Note to people crossposting from Dreamwidth: by default it seems to strip formatting. Which includes lj cut tags. Yow.
House
Last night's House, s05e20, major spoilers behind the cut... )

So, flist, what did you think?

House
I can't remember what the title of the season opener was, or I'd use it. Spoilers behind the cut... )
House
The House M.D. season finale was good. The two-parter was good. The whole season was good. By which I mean, "I was taken on an emotional ride and given vicarious sensations that made me forget my own mortality." Highly recommended. Even if you don't believe in catharsis.

Not really spoilery, but cutting just in case... )
House
I always look away during the magic school bus cam segments of House. Also, any scene that involves blood. I am so squeamish. Mr Pedia laughs at me.

Mid-season 4 spoilers... )

House
Pushing Daisies is fabulous. Fabulous. I feel no need to go all fandom-mode about it, but I will be watching it avidly.

House this season is also fabulous: the season of House allowed to simply be his obnoxious self. I like the season arc a great deal as well, including the mumble murfle. I don't miss mffffmph at all.

I caught up on House: spoilers ho! )

House
The latter part of season 3 is significantly better than the middle third. Strongest episodes yet, I think. And some of them quite painful. It's interesting that with the big arc out of the way, the writers are settling in to real character exploration. More behind the spoiler cut... )

And now I go home from work in time to watch Heroes.

House
Spoiler-ish question for early-middle season 3 arc... )
3rd-Apr-2007 10:40 pm - I'm shocked. Shocked.
House
House is not realistic. Next somebody is going to tell me that consulting detectives who solve crimes through pure deduction don't really exist.

Sarcasm aside, that's an interesting brief article on the real world. One way to get me angry is to get me thinking about the state of health care in the US for people who don't have insurance. (The last three times I was in hospitals, I was in Stanford, which is rather nice. I have insurance. I'm lucky. I didn't spot teams of specialists roaming around grabbing interesting cases and nearly killing people, though.)

Wimsey cogito
Why Galileo is a geek hero: "And yet it moves" is a statement that the fundamental laws of the universe do not yield to rhetoric, to persuasion, to cunning sophistry, or to threats of torture by religious leaders.

"The Cold Equations" is this core truth stated in a shamelessly manipulative sentimental story. And yet we don't have enough fuel to carry you.

Why House is a hero in the same way: he recognizes that fact does not particularly care about whether it is politely phrased or not. It might be rude to say something, but the rudeness has no effect on its truth or falsehood. The important thing is to save the patient's life. And yet it's an STD.

I am pretty definitively on one particular side of C P Snow's divide. I think Sokal's prank was freakin' hilarious. And that every intelligent person should re-read Orwell's essay on politics and the English language once a year.

Hmm, I need a House icon.

PS: Are Wilson's eyes crossed or what? Yes, I'm watching House season 3 at last.
13th-Feb-2007 10:01 pm - Several minor announcements
concentrating
At the moment I have run out of House, so I'm writing. Fairly steadily, for a woman with a bad cold and a head full of Sudafed.

Part 2 of T&P: 17K words at the moment. I am estimating 30K by the time I'm finished.

My current inspire-me desktop is Wicked Fox's Crow/Tony manip on a grungy background with a fragment of a New Order lyric. My wallpaper is not great graphic design, but I like looking at it because I have contracted a bad case of lust for that chest. And that particular sulky ASH face has come to represent the Giles of T&P to me. This one also works, because of the glare and the earring. Imagine him staring the Council puppy down like that.

House stuff cut so people who don't care can skip... )

My BPAL bath bombs arrived, but since I can't smell anything at all I haven't tried them out.
10th-Feb-2007 08:51 pm - Announcement
oh dear
Okay, I'm in love with House. Not as much as I'm in love with Giles, but still. It's, er, because he's so much like Mr P. Mr P laughed and laughed when I said this.
