10th-May-2009 10:17 pm - State of the writing projects
Watson likely stories
Since I haven't posted anything in a while, I thought I'd recap what's in progress and what's likely to appear soon. I've had a weird spring in Real Life which has been getting in the way of writing. I'm in the camp that needs bland bourgeois calm and mental tranquility to get any writing done. Also, gallons of coffee.

Seven projects behind the cut... )

Seven projects active right now. Oh lord.
Giles/Faith
Today's new icon is a quick crop from Jo Chen's cover for issue #24 of the Buffy season 8 comics. This issue is a one-shot story following Giles & Faith after "No Future For You". No idea what happens in it. I have long since given up my subscription to the comic, but I pre-ordered this one. Just for that cover. Oh my. And the good news is, Jeanty isn't ruining it with his pencils this time! And thus I found the right icon for today's story.

I am so dedicated to research for these stories that I also bought a bottle of Germain-Robin alambic brandy. The spelling of the word freaks me out, but it's apparently right. Amazing stuff. So incredibly smooth. I might give up whisk(e)y for it. Except it would ruin me. Except hey, not: since I can only drink about one eyedropper-full at a time, one bottle is going to last me years.

Near-future projects... )

PS: Now I'm off to leave comments on all the drunk!Giles stories posted today. You might enjoy them too! Drunken Giles masterlist over thisaway.

  • Finish as many [info]kink_bingo prompts as I can by Sunday. G/X, G/E, G/B/X all possible.
  • Finish mumble mumble G/Xander in progress for Oct 8.
  • As-yet-unknown Giles-Spike-Wes ficathon story for Nov 30.
  • Something special for my birthday on Nov 26, assuming the ficathon story doesn't eat my brain. Another prompt explosion like last year's? A long meaty story finished? What would you like?
  • Something extra-special for the December holidays, which for me involve minimal celebrations but do feature lots of convenient time off.
  • No other organized events. None. Slack is the theme of this fall and winter. Well, no, actually, it's finishing WIPs.
  • WIPs on the list: Ars Draconis, Reconnection, Tradition & Protocol, Watcher's Child, Blackmail.
  • Stories in progress I'd like to finish soon that don't count as serieses: The Trapped in a Cave Cliche Fic, The Highgate Cemetery Timetravel Story, Giles/Spike Post-Series Sanshu-Matic, Doctor Who crossover tagfic (Nine, Rose, Buffy, Giles, Ethan, vampires).

I will now take bets about how long my resolutions will last. I did have a whacky idea in my head about doing themed prompts, one a week. Songfic prompts, where the usual cliches of songfic are made painfully impossible. I'd like to see songfic for what I'm listening to right now, for instance.

29th-Jul-2008 01:48 pm - I've got a theory
restless

I'm not satisfied with how my writing has been going recently, so I'm going to shake things up a bit.

With my second [info]summer_of_giles day, I have met the last of my fannish deadlines. My plan is to sign up for no more things that have due dates for the near future. I'll do SoG next year, just 'cause it's Summer of Giles. But any other deadlines will be gently declined until my mood about deadlines changes. I have some other theories.

Plotting and planning... ) Works in progress, the big list... )

calm

I've spent the last week not really thinking about fandom because of the exigencies of work, which was busy in unusual and time-sensitive ways last week. Somewhat unpredictably, or I would not have booked myself with fannish obligations I was entirely unable to meet. Gah. Sorry.

I have read almost nothing this week. Yesterday I got into the bath for a very long soak. In the bath, I read Trudi Canavan's The Magician's Guild, which was a pleasant and uncomplicated YA-ish fantasy novel. The good guys are good, the bad guys are bad, the hero is never seriously challenged, and there were no layers below the surface. Which means I could scream through it at high velocity and rediscover my functioning brain. While soaking and drinking a margarita. I am ready to resume fandom. (Just in time for some really charming unfunny business. WTF, fandom, WTF.)

State of the projects, May 2008... )

And now I catch up on the wonderful things you have all posted for the h/c fest which, um, I seem to have failed utterly with.

In likely order of completion:

  1. [info]rounds_of_kink prompt: Oz/Xander (omg world ending); due yesterday.
  2. Remix Story (ruling from the center of the ultraworld mix), April 12.
  3. Giles/Ethan New Years Eve ficlet, in the Antique Roman verse, no due date.
  4. Tagfic for [info]seldomifever: finish the story with Giles + Buffy + bottle of Jack, in a motel, post-Chosen; no due date.
  5. [info]spring_with_xan story: total mystery to me; May 11.
  6. [info]summer_of_giles story: will probably be the one I call "the signet ring story"; signups not open yet, but I need to start early.

Today is communication day: catch up on answering fic feedback; catch up on leaving comments on your posts (since you all seem to be having lives at the moment, which is both good and bad); send email to people to say hi and apologize for my lack of existence the last couple of months. I also have a to-be-read list that's rapidly increasing out of control.

Context is everything: Officemate V just said, "Spinning pie slices it is, then!"

And then there's procrastination via fanfic writing meme... )

Just had stunning revelation. Okay, okay. Just had mildly interesting moment of insight.

Fic wittering! Everybody's favorite! )

I note that LJ is hiccuping out comment notifications from last night and earlier today. I think I'm almost caught up with comments. Will double-check, 'cause I bet I missed some.
